HDMI USB and Long Distance Connections
A golf simulator can have a capable gaming PC, a high-quality projector and accurate tracking equipment—and still be frustrating to use when its connections are unreliable.
The projector occasionally loses its picture. A swing camera works beside the computer but flickers after an extension cable is added. Moving the PC into another room solves a space problem but creates new connection questions.
These situations require a clear wiring plan.
Golf simulator cabling usually involves separate connections for the projector, swing cameras, launch monitor and control devices. Each connection has its own requirements for bandwidth, power, distance and compatibility.
This guide explains how to plan those connections, investigate common problems and prepare the information needed to select suitable HDMI and USB cables.

A working projector connection does not prove that the camera connection is suitable. Similarly, a USB-C connector does not establish which functions a launch monitor supports.
Record the model and interface of every device before purchasing cables.
Choose an HDMI Cable for the Actual Projector Format
The cable between the computer and projector must support the video format you intend to use.
· Output resolution and refresh rate.
· Color depth and chroma format.
· HDR requirements, if used.
· The projector’s accepted input formats.
· The complete route length.
· Adapters, wall plates, switches or receivers in the path.
A cable marketed as “4K” does not tell you every supported combination of frame rate and color format. Match the cable specifications to the intended operating mode.
For a longer route, a suitable fiber optic HDMI cable—also called an HDMI active optical cable or HDMI AOC—may be worth evaluating. Its integrated electronics transport supported high-speed signals optically between the source and display.
The supported distance, power requirements and features depend on the exact model. Confirm these before installation.

Check the Direction Before Routing the Cable
Many optical HDMI cables are directional. Follow the connector markings.
Source → PC or transmitting equipment
Display → Projector or receiving equipment
Trackman’s projector troubleshooting guidance specifically includes checking directional HDMI connections, along with Windows and NVIDIA display settings. Trackman projector connection guidance
Test the complete setup before pulling the cable through walls or ceilings.
Troubleshoot a Golf Simulator Projector Black Screen
A black screen is a symptom with several possible causes. It does not, by itself, prove that the projector or cable has failed.
1. Check the projector input and connector seating. Confirm that the selected input matches the connected port.
2. Verify cable direction. Follow the manufacturer’s markings for directional cables.
3. Check display detection. Confirm that Windows and the graphics software recognize and enable the projector.
4.Compare with a short, known-working cable. Use the same PC, projector and video settings.
5. Simplify the connection. Temporarily remove optional adapters, switches, wall plates or receivers.
6. Change one video setting at a time. Record whether resolution, refresh rate or HDR affects the fault.
7. Retest the installed route. Include every component that will remain in the final system.
If the short connection works while the longer route fails, investigate the differences between the two paths. These may include the cable, power, adapter compatibility or supported format.
Record when the problem appears: startup, source switching, waking from sleep or sustained operation. That information makes support discussions more useful.
Extend Golf Swing Cameras Carefully
Swing cameras create a different set of requirements from projectors.
A USB cable must support the camera’s data connection and any required power. A cable that works with a keyboard may be unsuitable for a high-frame-rate camera.
· Confirm camera brand and model.
· Check connector type and USB generation.
· Record required resolution and frame rate.
· Check camera power requirements and total connection length.
· Identify whether the existing cable contains a repeater.
· Verify whether the manufacturer permits extensions or hubs.
Avoid assuming that adding another extension will improve an existing connection.
For example, Uneekor states that its supplied 21-foot Swing Optix cable contains a repeater and should not be combined with an extension cable. The company also identifies shared USB controller capacity as a potential cause of reduced frame rate. Uneekor Swing Optix connection guidance
These restrictions are specific to the documented equipment. Check the guidance for your own camera.
Why Do Two Cameras Perform Worse Than One
Two physical USB ports may share the same controller.
If each camera works independently but performance drops when both operate together, investigate controller capacity and power as well as the cables. Changing cables alone may not resolve a shared-resource limitation.
· Connect one camera at a time at the required capture settings.
· Follow the manufacturer’s port-placement guidance.
· Add the second camera and compare performance.
· Introduce extensions and other devices individually.
A Dark Image Is Different From a Disconnected Camera
High-frame-rate recording and short exposure times require appropriate lighting.
If the camera remains connected but the image becomes dark after a shutter or exposure change, investigate lighting, aperture and camera settings. If the device disappears or repeatedly reconnects, investigate the connection, power and software.
Keeping these symptoms separate helps avoid unnecessary cable purchases.
Can the Golf Simulator PC Be in Another Room
A remotely located PC can help protect equipment from stray balls and reduce clutter around the hitting area. It also means planning more than one long connection.
· PC → Projector.
· Swing cameras → PC.
· Launch monitor → Its supported connection endpoint.
· Keyboard, mouse or control receiver → PC.
Measure the actual installation routes, including vertical sections, turns and service allowance. The distance between rooms is rarely the same as the cable route.
For the projector, evaluate an HDMI connection suitable for the required length and video mode. For cameras and control devices, confirm USB extension compatibility and power separately.
A USB extension used to relocate a Bluetooth adapter still leaves a wireless connection between that adapter and the golf device. It does not convert the entire connection into a wired link.
Bench-test the proposed system before permanent routing.
Check the Launch Monitor Connection Method
Launch monitors differ in how they communicate with computers and simulation software.
Some support USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi; others use a different combination. Available connection methods can also depend on the software being used.
For example, Foresight Sports documents USB-C, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections for GCQuad. That information should not be applied automatically to another model. Foresight Sports GCQuad support
Confirm both the hardware interface supported by the device and the connection method supported by the intended software.
A different cable cannot add a communication mode that the hardware or software does not support.
Connect a Projector and a Secondary Display
Many simulator owners want the projector to show the course while a nearby monitor displays swing video, controls or performance information.
To show different content, the computer needs a suitable multi-display configuration and compatible outputs.
A conventional HDMI splitter normally duplicates one source image. An extended desktop requires an appropriate additional display output or supported display solution.
Check the graphics card’s available HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, the receiving display inputs and any adapter requirements. Test the final resolution and refresh rate on both displays.
Plan Cable Routing Before Finishing the Room
A dependable wiring plan should also make the system serviceable.
· Confirm that connectors fit through the intended route.
· Follow bend-radius and pulling limits.
· Provide strain relief at equipment connections.
· Keep cables away from ball impact and moving components.
· Label both ends and plan access for replacement.
· Select jackets and installation methods appropriate to the building and environment.
Armored construction can add mechanical protection, but it does not automatically establish waterproofing or suitability for every installation.
