What is 8K ?
8K Ultra-High-Definition (8K UHD) is also called "8K" resolution, which is 16 times of the Full High-Definition (FHD) picture specification (1080p) and 4 times the 4K UHD picture specification. About 10 years after the HDMI specification release, products that support the HD picture have not only limited to home entertainment products , but also covered various application fields such as PCs, digital cameras, and mobile phones. Also because of the 8K UHD specifications release, we can image that various products will support 8K UHD, and with the increase of 8K UHD content, 8K UHD marketing will grow more fast.
8K is not only means an increase in resolution, but also it is a comprehensive upgrade of video formats. It is the media people whom constantly pursuing the limitation, faithfully recording and depicting details, to break through time and space and reproduce the beautiful dreams. 8K can be used in live broadcasts, home theaters, immersive games, and many other scenarios that consumers dream of. Following are three points where the users’ experience has been greatly improved:
1. Richer details: The resolution of 8K UHD is 7680x4340, which is 16 times that of FHD. The high frame rate of 120Hz is 4 times higher than that of 30Hz, which completely exceeds the scientifically recognized human eye can clearly see the field of view, 2169*1213. When the two are multiplied, by 8K, the details will be 64 times as rich as the original. While taking into account the macro scene, it can also take care of every detail of the millisecond-level picture.
2. More brilliant colors: 8K related standards can support up to 12bit color depth. The current 10-bit color depth, combined with the dynamic HDR Vivid standard and BT.2020 color gamut, greatly improves the wide dynamic and wide color gamut. Compared with the traditional 8bit color depth and SDR dynamic range, it can not only increase the color gamut coverage by 72%, up to 40 times the brightness, but also have rich layers, blacker and darker, brighter.
3. A more realistic experience: 8K not only achieves the ultimate in 2D display, this super video processing capability will also break through the limitations of 2D, and together with the content production end, create a 360-degree panoramic video, users can freely Choose a viewing angle, watch video content from any angle, and realize 3D content presentation on a large 2D screen. At the same time, 8K's visual immersive experience and 3D audio can be perfectly combined to provide viewers with a more immersive audio-visual feast.
What is HDMI 2.1 ?
Almost 10 billion devices enabled with HDMI® technology have shipped since the first HDMI specification was released in December 2002. The latest HDMI 2.1 Specification released in November 2017 continues to enable the development of new product categories and innovative solutions to meet the growing demand for higher performance and more immersive consumer experiences.
HDMI Specification 2.1 is the most recent update of the HDMI specification and supports a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates including 8K60 and 4K120, and resolutions up to 10K. Dynamic HDR formats are also supported, and bandwidth capability is increased up to 48Gbps.
Supporting the 48Gbps bandwidth is the new Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable. The cable ensures ultra high-bandwidth dependent features are delivered including uncompressed 8K video with HDR. It features exceptionally low EMI (electro-magnetic interference) which reduces interference with nearby wireless devices. The cable is backwards compatible and can be used with the existing installed base of HDMI devices.
